This area of FL has been decided on for our "girlfriends get together". Which hotel would you recommend? We are mostly interested in beach time and maybe spa treatments.

Though we've never stayed there, DonCesar is the grand dame of resorts in that area.
We have, however, stayed on and near Clearwater Beach and Sand Key (which is just over a bridge), and I'm not carried away with that area at all. If I were you, I'd stick with DonCesar.

You don't give your ages, but there is a difference. A younger crowd would prefer Clearwater, while an older crowd would probably prefer the Don.

The Sand Pearl is very, very nice. I'd still choose the Don for its sense of old fashioned luxury, but you wouldn't dislike the SP.
The question has become moot. We are meeting in San Diego and staying at the Loews Coronado Island. But will keep the Don in mind for the future. It looks great.
I love San Diego, especially in the summer when it's miserably hot in other parts of the country! Have you considered the Del Coronado?
