Do you watch TV while you're on vacation?
I'm curious to know if all you lovely people watch tv while on vacation? Or, do you get out and enjoy the destination as much as possible?
Just curious.

We watch tv while we are dressing in the mornings or getting ready to go out at night. Usually CNN to see the weather and if anything new is happening in the world.
The best tv watching is in Paris where we try to figure out what Hoss is saying on Bonanza ,dubbed in French, LOL!

I always kind of enjoy getting to watch The Morning Show, while drinking my coffee. I never get a chance to see it any other time, and it always gives me such a great feel of one of my favorite cities.

We usually have it on in the morning when getting ready to go out. It is nice to know what the weather and news is. The also tell local spots that could be of interest.
After a full day, it is nice to wind down with the tube on for awhile. It gives you a bit of a taste of the local culture too.

On that same note - does anyone watch the hotel channel with information about the hotel and local attractions? It usually loops continuously and I always tune in a few times to make sure I haven't missed seeing anything good!

Like some of the others here, I like to have the TV on in the morning while getting ready... Also I tend to travel alone, so I don't stay out really late usually...usually in before 11PM and I'm a night owl, so usually I will unwind with the news and maybe a little after that. Find it is another way of getting a local feel, always loved watching the Big Breakfast in London in the morning for years on trips there (although it was canceled not long ago), sometimes silly but very English!

Usually one of the news channels before bed just to make sure everything out there is in order and maybe a little ESPN to see highlights of some sort of major sporting event. Otherwise I can usually be found on the beach or at the beach bar.

I don't watch TV much anyway, but it is interesting to watch when abroad because I think it gives you an insight to the culture (that is assuming you are avoiding imported shows and CNN). I can't imagine having gone to Brazil without at least watching a couple episodes of their famed soap operas, even if I didn't understand portuguese. Additionally, if you are somewhere for an extended period of time, of course you do occaisionally get bored. I'll never forget trying in vain to figure out the rules the Cricket match on television on dull and rainy winter afternoon in the UK.

Has anyone stayed someplace with NO TV accessible? Do you have withdrawal? We don't watch TV, but if it's not there it makes me a little uneasy.
The first time with no TV, we were at the Sonesta Beach Hotel in Bermuda sometime in the 70's. There was a little radio in the room and we turned it on long enough to catch the weather for the next day. Sunny and warm. Woke up the next morning to driving rain and wind....and news from the hotel that a hurricane was approaching and the airport was closing in a couple hours! It was too late for us to leave, but it worked out fine as the storm came within 50 miles then turned...all we had were wild seas, fun to watch from the cliffs, and some pretty impressive wind...then sunshine the following day.
Just stayed in Flagstaff over Thanksgiving week with no TV. It was wonderful not knowing how much the market fell each day!! As I said, we rarely watch, but when it isn't even available...it does make you a bit uneasy (especially after our Bermuda experience).
