Do you need a car in Siesta Key? 1st timer....

Hi I'm going to Siesta Key FL for 9 days in late Aug with my 7 yr old daughter. We're mainly going for the beach but since it's a long trip, I'd like to be able to go other kid friendly places. Do I need to rent a car? I hear there's a free trolley and also a free taxi service called Johnny's but don't know how often these come and how far they are from where we're staying. Also we'd need supplies and groceries. We are flying into Ft Myers also and I still have no idea how I'm going to get to our condo at Siesta Key lol. Any advice on transportation, the need for a car, some must DP's for kids etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Judy

I would definitely rent a car. Trolley and "free" taxi (you probably "tip") aren't great for grocery shopping, etc.
Interesting couple hours would be a visit to Mote Marine Lanoratory and Aquarium.

Yes, you will need a car. Southwest Florida Intl Airport is about an hour and a half drive from Siesta Key. Groceries will be much easier to procure with a car also.

I really recommend that you rent a car. There is so much to see that needs a car The Ringling (free on a Monday), St. Armand's Circle, other beaches including Lido Key, etc. Also, it will be very hot for your little one. St.Petersburg has a great kids' museum. Our 8 year old granddaughter loved it.
