My huband, son, and I are flying to Rapid City for a week for the purpose of sight-seeng. Is a week too long to see the major attractions such as Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park and the Badlands? I would like to go to Yellowstone. Is it feasible to do all that in a week? If so,what is the best route or would it be better to try to get a flight once we are there to a place closer to the Tetons and Yellowstone? Are there adequate accommodations along the way? What highway should we take if we drive? Thanks for your advice. CSG

It is 474 miles, 7 1/2 hours from Rapid City to YSNP. I-90 west to rt 14W in Sheridan,WY. Take rt 14 to Cody and the junction of rts 14/16. Continue to the park and the Grand loop on 14/16. If you have the time, on the return trip take 14A (alt 14) out of Cody. It will rejoin 14 at Burgess Junction and let you see the rest of the Big Horn Mts. I don't think it is that much longer than 14, and the views are spectcular. There is a very nice hotel at the 14/14a junction. Clean rooms and a nice restaurant.
If you go to freetrip.com you will also be able to find hotels along the way in addition to the above routes, mileage and time.
Your information is very helpful. Thanks

csgmentor,
You will use up two days just driving back and forth to Yellowstone and it take 3 or 4 days to really do the park justice. You said you only have a week. Is that 5 days, 7 days or 9 days? Unless you have 9 days, I would suggest doing Yellowstone another time or fly into an airport closer to Yellowstone and make that your whole trip.
