Disneyworld on the Millenium

Just interested in your opinion. Would Disneyworld be a bad choice for a vacation in the last week of December 1999? Will it be too crowded to have fun? (We have children). What is your favorite month to go? Thanks in advance.

I think WDW would be a horrible choice for a vacation that week. I was in WDW for New Years, 1997 (25th Anniversary). It was considered the most crowded week in Disney history; it was the only time that they had to close all the parks at once to visitors because it got so crowded. The lines were so long (and normally I don't mind lines) - Splash Mountain had over a 2 hour wait. Crowds, let's not even talk about the crowds. If it was that bad then, think of how it will be in December, 1999. Also, all Disney accomodations have been sold out for 5 years for that week. While it would be a novel idea to be able to say you were there then, it is not worth sacrificing everyone's happiness. Generally, some good times to go are in January, after the holidays (though this coming January may be an exception), the first two weeks in December (once again, an exception this year) as well as March, before spring break. October is also a very nice month. Schools are in session, the weather's good, etc.

Thanks Ilisa, I thought it might not be a good time to go. (Believe it or not, I called them yesterday and they did have accomodations - although not at my favorite hotel). I will try to book for a different time of year. Thanks for your suggestions.

Petra,
I was just in Disney World in Sept. with 6 kids and my sister. We thought it would be a great time to go with little lines since school just was starting...I was amazed to see the long lines! So I inquired to the employees there...they mostly told me the slowest time to come is the 1st two weeks of December. The last person was right....New Year's '99 will be a ZOO! Plus did you consider if there could be a problem with a Y2K issue there? What a mess! Good luck.

Divorced couples are literally suing each other to stay at WDW for the millenium. We filled our rooms around 1993... Definitely not a good choice for the millenium if you're looking for un-crowded parks, but definitely a celebration you WILL NOT forget....

When inquiring about our vacation to disney this June, I was talking with a Disney representitive, they have been book or the millenium for at least 6 months now, and did not recommend it for a vacation time. Prices are alot more expensive than at peak time too. Good luck with your search
