Discounted New York Theater tickets?

I found $33 (with tax and handling) tickets to Altar boyz - Left orchestra row A sets 9 and 11. Is that a good deal?

I think Goldstar is great. Half price tickets, usually, plus a small service charge ($3).

Its free to join, and I've never had any problem. I usually use it in San Francisco, though. Just saw a terrific production of Tommy for $18. (They have lots of cities, so it's good when traveling)

The website is very user friendly, and includes reviews, venue information, and other tips.

For New York, I use Theatermania, http://www.theatermania.com/ , Broadwaybox http://www.broadwaybox.com/ , and Playbill http://www.playbill.com/index.php .

They have all worked out very well for me over the years.

broadwaybox.com lists all the discounts available. Get the coupon code there and then go to the seller's regular online site to see what seats are available.

You will find very few discounts for the holiday period unless a show is quite old - since the town is filled both with tourists and locals trying to amuse more than a million NYC school kids on vacation - never mind those from the suburbs.

Some shows have a drawing for tickets two hours before the show. You just show up and put your name on a ballot and wait for the drawing. If your name is picked you can purchase up to two tkts for $25 each.
I know someone who saw Hair and West Side Story that way. I don't know what other shows offer the drawings.

"In the Heights" is a great show and usually discounted on broadwaybox.com (left column) and elsewhere. You may have to wait to see Dec. discounts.

i know it's a bit out there but has anyone seen furzabruta? looks different but different sometimes doesn't mean good. also, i love cirque du soleil and wintuk is showing while we're there. has anyone seen them and any ideas for discounted tickets (if available)?

Fuezerbruta is supposed to be fun (haven't seen it) but you stand through the whole performance. Both it and Cirque have discounts on broadwaybox.com but both expire before your visit. I don't know whether either will have discounts for the holiday week.

You can often find discounts by just doing a simple google search like -discounts for Wintuk NYC. That will also bring up reviews like this one for Wintuk. http://theater.nytimes.com/2007/11/09/theater/reviews/09cirq.html

You are not going to find many discounts for that time period. The week between Christmas and New Year's is the busiest week of the year for Broadway shows. And, with the two holidays coming on Fridays, the "busyness" will extend through New Year's weekend.

If you are willing to get to the box office early, you can often score rush or standing room only tickets on the day of the performance: see http://www.talkinbroadway.com/boards/index.php?rush=show for a discussion of which shows offer these tickets. We obtained SRO tickets to "Hair", and as soon as the performance started, the ushers moved us to great seats in the orchestra section!

I don't tbink it'll be a total wipeout Christmas week for discount tickets. There might be a few offers for shows not doing that well......The 39 Steps and Superior Donuts, for example (though neither has offers for that week yet). Musicals will be tougher ticket that week, however. Right now, the only discount offer for a musical on broadwaybox.com for that week is White Christmas.

Yes, both are worth seeing. The 39 Steps is a very clever sendup of the old Hitchcock classic, while Superior Donuts was written the same woman who wrote the Pulitzer-Prize-winning August: Osage County.
