Directions from Ft. Lauderdale airport to LBTS

I realize it's a short trip, but we'll be arriving late at night and I'd like to make this as painless as possible. I've seen two ways to make the trip - go west to 95 then north, or go east to A1A and north. If I remember A1A right, it's stop and go most of the way. Would somebody please lead us in the right direction........literally.....

Thanks in advance.

Late at night you shouldn't have any problem with traffic.
Go Rte.1 north, bear right onto 17th St.,follow to the end,go left onto A1A to LBTS. or...

Go Rte.1 north, turn right onto Sunrise (the sign will say Beaches A1A), follow to the end, and take a left onto A1A.

Where did you decide to stay?

We wanted to stay a A Little Inn, but they didn't have the rooms we wanted open so we ended up with the Clarion Resort on N. Ocean Dr.

I've seen some bad reviews about it but our favorite hotel in Key Largo seems to get a lot of bad ones also, so we're thinking about taking a chance.

Any suggestions? And thanks for the directions!

The Clarion doesn't look great from the outside. If you get one of the renovated rooms you might be okay.Did you check out the High Noon Resort? Or the Costa Del Sol (www.costadel.com) The Costa Del Sol looks nice, but is closed thru April for renovations. Not sure when you are going.

I didn't think the Clarion looked as good as some of the others either, but we were impressed with the price of the beach front rooms (and will probably get what we pay for, right?)- we're also frequent guests with their franchise so that and the fact that the liquor store and Publix is right across the street was a plus. The other two you mentioned were a tad bit high for us, but when we see what we're getting we may be in the market quickly! We're going the weekend of May 6-7 so we can see part of the Air Show. Thanks for all your information, you've been a great help.

Oh no you're not!!! <grin>

I'm figuring as long as we keep an open mind about it we can't be too disappointed - I sure hope those aren't famous last words............

ccolor: I think the Clarion is the hotel next to the hotel I was in (Captain's Quarters). I referred to it as a Best Western or something in your other post.

Anyhow, I can't tell you anything about the rooms, but I can tell you that the pool plays loud music all day (and evening) long and has quite a party atmosphere around it. It was a younger crowd. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

But I was there in March, and it could have been a more spring break atmosphere than it would be in May.

I did enjoy the fact that they had a pool/beach bar, which I visited occasionally .

BuffaloGirl - First off I want to say that every time I see your name on a post I want some buffalo wings. Evidently Pavlov was right.

ANYwho, we're in our mid 50's and are pretty much over the party thing, so I'm glad to hear your thoughts on the time of year aspect of staying there. I'll probably try to get a room a bit away from the pool area just in case.

I knew the hotel had a bar and was hoping it was the one your referred to in your post. I'm looking forward to confirming your appreciation for the fact that it's handy.

Thanks again to all!

Very handy, ccolor, very handy!

When you're hungry, and you can't get any good wings (and there are no good wings anywhere but here), just go online here and get yourself some from the one and only original....

Have a great time in LBTS!

We've stayed - for the past 5 years- at Villa Caprice and loved it!!! Not staying there this year because we were informed by the owners last year that they sold it and it was being converted to condos - However, I hear they are still open until July -- Would highly recommend it - unless, of course, they have construction going on now -- but worth cking into -- It's located at the other end of the Street from the Clarion...
