There was a discussion under Oregon - a few months ago - about the many - very good restaurants in Ashland, and the greater Rogue Valley, in addition to the ones that are listed on the list Rasta provide, such as Ashland's Amuse, Larks, Monet, Peerless - and Black Sheep for a pub and over in Medford - a great sandwich/burger place that had Bison and Elk in addition to other choices.

Will try to dig it out but you could also google away.

Where or where is BBQ boy? He gives good/friendly feedback.

I was asking for specific personal recommendations from Fodorites. I have already researched on line and in guidebooks. Directories and guidebooks are not as meaningful IMO.

Bandon>Brookings>Ashland via 199,
Bridgeview in Cave Junction would be a first good stop, as would Be Taylor's Sausage and Country Store(wonderful sausages).
Coming in to Grant's Pass, SummerJo's is an exemplary Farm/Restaurant.
Lots of wine on 238, the beautiful back way from GP to Jacksonville.

Right around Ashland,the 2 places
we take guests are Trium and Paschal,
both in Talent. 2 best stores for groceries are Shop-N-Kart, (talk to Cheryl about local wines,also tastings on Friday afternoons),and the Co-op.
The RV farmer's Market is on Tuesday
at the Armory on East Main, Thursday at the Armory in Medford, and Saturday downtown. Organic and Local+lots of prepared food.
Don't forget the Green Show every night except
monday preceding the evening plays,(free)in front of the theatre complex).
Don't have time to look up links right now, but I'll come back this evening with more wine and restaurant suggestions.
I would only say as far as Rastaguy's opinion, besides the fact you'll be 300 miles away,is that we have a different, more rugged terrain, more heat,less moisture, and different grapes.Better or worse is a subjective thing.

The route suggestion for the Applegate Wine trail sounds interesting. I will actually be staying in Talent and doing day trips all around. I have tickets to see Henry V and am looking into a whitewater trip too.

Love the suggestion of the RV farmers market and Summer Jo's. I will be coming in from Bandon so I think the route will be thru Grant's Pass. I'll check this.

Have you by chance done a jet boat ride with Jerry's on the Rogue? I'm not sure which length of trip to choose. It sounds like their longer trips go slow on the way upriver for wildlife viewing and fast on the return (best of both worlds)!

If you like rivers/fishing - I think the Applegate is out by Talent - or part of it is anyway. Have been some nice Steelhead pulled out of there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Applegate_River

I have been on a friend's jetboat on the Rogue River - but up at the other end - around Eagle Point.

Jerry's seems to be nicely recommended - but there are others too. Whatever trip you choose - just do it.

And again, BBQboy really knows the area, as I think he is going to college at Southern Oregon, in Ashland.

Dayle, I've never ridden Jerry's,just
Hellgate in GP. I supposed they are something everyone should ride once,but
if you are going rafting via Ashland,that is a much more satisfying experience. There's several outfitters including Momentum, Kokopelli, and Noah's, to name a few.
No rivers near Talent,but it was my home for 22 years. I don't think you want to go fishing?
