We will be visiting the state of Colorado in two weeks and am wondering if the Pikes Peak area was burned? We plan to stay in Manitou Springs and visit the sights. Hopefully it was spared, as we wish for all areas of the USA! Thanks for an update.
Did recent fires burn area around Pikes Peak?

Yes, there was a huge fire in the mountains northwest of Manitou and Pikes Peak. From the road up Pikes Peak there were a few places you could see the real extent of the fire. It burned over 300 homes in one town (we never saw that area). We were there a few weeks ago and as we drove further west on 24 you could see some spots where the fire came down to the road. However it was business as usual in Manitou Springs.
The road to Pikes Peak is paved all the way to the top and was quite the experience.
All visitor sites are open and ready for business. Garden of the Gods is wonderful as is the Air Force Chapel.
Definitely plan on driving up Pikes Peak - but just be aware some people don't take to altitude as well as others and if that happens, just get lower fast.
Also - my old "stomping grounds" - really marching grounds at the AF Academy is worth a visit.
One of my classmates also owns/runs a very classic pub in C. Springs - Jack Quinn's is it? And it has quite acceptable dining as well. http://www.jackquinnspub.com/
