We are hoping to join family (who already have rented a house with no more room)in Dewey Beach in the end of July for 4-5 days and want to stay in a hotel or condo directly on the beach in Dewey - not Rehoboth. Any suggestions? Also, are there any accommodations anywhere in the area with a great outdoor pool? We are a bit spoiled in staying at very nice hotels....what is there that we will be totally enamored with?

I can't think of a place that will suit your needs in the Dewey beach area. First, I don't recall any hotels that are directly on the beach. Second, the motels in Dewey are just not that nice if you have been spoiled by nice hotels you won't be impressed. The motels in Dewey are all on Route 1 which is a short walk to the beach (a block or two) but they are just not that great. You might be happier with a condo rental. Call a rental agent in the area.
This isn't Dewey, but we just rented a condo in Bethany Beach. We, too, insisted on oceanfront with a pool (and kiddie pool). We rented at Sea Colony through resortquest.com. We have used resortquest before and they do a good job of managing/renting properties.
Doubt you'll find anything oceanfront since your planning so late (best time to search is January), I searched Prudential, Coldwater properties there were only 1 or 2 house rentals left in Dewey. There is a Best Western just off Route 1 that looks nice its not oceanfront but a 1-2 minute walk to the beach (couple condos and houses in front of it) and you don't have to cross Route 1 to get to the ocean.
