Detroit transportation questions - DTW to Downtown and Downtown to Henry Ford

I guess first thing to note is that I'd rather not rent a car - everything I'm visiting is Downtown except for the Henry Ford. I am looking for transportation to/from DTW and the Renaissance Marriott for 8:15 Tuesday night, 08/07/06. Is the SMART bus a good option at that time of night? Also, I've seen on this site the suggestion to use Metro Cars for airport transportation - is this Checker Sedan? The main Fodor's Detroit page notes something called Commuter Express for $28 round trip but that also appears to be Checker Sedan, which is closer to $100 round trip.

Also, is SMART bus a good option to the Henry Ford? It appears I can catch bus 200 by the Marriott or take the People Mover to Fort/Cass and catch it from there.

Are there any other transportation options out to the Henry Ford that I am missing, such as guided tours, etc.?

Thanks,

Greg
