Hi, we're from Philadelphia, looking for a family destination spot in Pennsylvania for our summer vacation. We will have an 18-month-old and are hoping to find someplace outdoorsy and with child-friendly things to do. We would like to spend a week there. Thanks for any suggestions!

One idea is to go for a cabin at one of the State parks. One of my favorites is Prince Gallitzin in the western part of the State. You'd be within reasonable driving distance of Altoona and Johnstown if you wanted to sightsee a bit (and Altoona has the lovely little Quaint Corner children's musueum) but would definitely be outdoorsy. My nieces and nephews have loved it at around the age of your child.

The perfect place for a family vacation is Knoebels Amusement Resort, located about 2 hours north of Philly, and set in the woods of Columbia County. The park offers free admission, free parking, over 50 different amusement rides with a seperate kiddie section (pay for the rides that you ride on), several restaurants, a swimming pool, a few museums, a camp ground, free entertainment, mini-golf course and a picnic grove where you can bring your own picnic lunch/dinner.
