Destin logdings recs?

DD and family (DH and 4 kids) looking for accommodations in Destin (for one week this summer), close to beach. She would like to know which area is the best to stay in. (I suspect they will consider nearby Destin).

Any lodging reviews would also be appreciated. Right now she is looking on VRBO, but I suspect other reviewers here might have other options to suggest. A private lodging is best since they have four kids (ages 6-10), and like to cook their own meals.

Thanks!

With that many people I would look for a place at Sandestin. Even if they are not right on the beach they would be able to rent a golf cart to ride there, or take the shuttle, just as easy. And Baytowne, on the bay side of Sandestin, offers all the entertainment and activities they will need for all ages, for at least several nights of fun.

sanibella, thanks for the info.

They really do prefer to be on the beach or at least no more than a 2-3 minute walk from it.

However, good news about Baytowne, as sometimes the boys (read: Dad and boys) get a little "beached out" and would probably happily like to have other entertainment. My DD and her two daughters (8 and 10) really love the beach and will spend the whole day there (sans naps and meals), if they could.

What kind of "entertainment" is there in Baytowne for boys 7 and 9?

We are staying right now at the Adagio in Blue Mountain Beach about 15 minutes east of Destin. Rented on VRBO. It's a beautiful complex. We're having fun walking the fabulous beach, riding bikes, shopping, and having fun with our family.

Bay towne has a zip line, a small ropes course, etc. My kids are ages 6-10 and it is perfect for them, and we also see slightly older aged children there too. I am sure they have a website.

There are also Sandestin properties right on the beach (and you could ride the shuttle over to Baytowne) but I am not sure of any that could house everyone at once.

The Blue mountain option, above is a good idea too. They could rent a house anywhere along highway 30-A and enjoy being right on the beach. This is a 20-30 minute drive to Destin and it's many activities. The 30-A area is quieter and very lovely. The closer the house is to Seaside the closer they would be to where the kids could bike (available to rent) or walk to where other kids hang out together.
