Denver for New Years and the Broncos
Hello
My wife and I will be in Denver CO for New Years Eve and to see the Broncos play. I am looking for some suggestions on where to stay. We have a budget of about $200 per night max. Looking for a good restaurant or to and some advice on getting around. I understand that Uber is the way to go?? We've never been but my wife is huge fan and we are looking forward to the trip. Any advice would be welcome!
Thanks!

I think the best bet is to stay in downtown area along the 16 street mall. What kind of restaurants do you like? If you stay in the downtown area there is no need for a car. If flying you can take the train from the airport to downtown.
On New Years Eva there are fireworks at 9pm and midnight fired from the tops of the buildings lining the 16th Street Mall. Fairly impressive.

To continue -- See -- This is supposedly our 25 best restaurants in the area including Boulder. Several are in the downtown area and easily walked from hotels in the downtown area. There are many good restaurants in an area called LODO - lower downtown and in the Highlands.

The Westin is attached to the newly remodeled Amtrak Union station. https://trip.amtrak.com/hotels/21147...4w#description
The light rail coming in from the airport also stops there.
The California Zephyr Amtrak train backs past the Broncos stadium to get to the station.

The problems for locals is that we don't use the local hotels very often so it is hard to recommend a hotel. The Teatro is in a good location on 14th. It is an old Univ of CO administrative building that was converted to a hotel years ago. Right next to the theater district and a block from Larimer Sq. with a good restaurant in the hotel. It is a historical block on the national registry with a number of good restaurants.
You are two blocks from the 16th Street Mall with a free shuttle that runs every few minutes from one end of the Mall to the other. The state capital lights are on. The are horse drawn carriages on the mall. I don't know current rates but it was about hundred or so for six for an hour loop through the streets and past the capital a couple of year ago. Unfortunately around New Years you have have to reserve a time if interested.
The old Union Pacific terminal was redeveloped this past year and is not the hub of the local transit system. It now has a hotel on the upper level with a number of restaurants on the ground floor. The main entrance to the station faces 17th St. Take the train from the airport to Union station. Walk out the front door, turn left one block to 16th street and stand by the bus stop. The free shuttle stops every block. Ride to Lawerence and walk two blocks west to the Teatro.
The Oxford on 17th one black from the Union Station is another interesting old hotel that you might look at.

Just a warning: NYE is very popular, and it's a good idea to lock in rates/reservations now, esp. if you can get a good price.
Teatro is a very good hotel, I believe renovated recently (2015?); excellent location (too bad the Kevin Taylor restaurant there closed, but they're one block away).

Teatro is in the Performing Arts Center block (officially "Lo Do"; 2 blocks from the Convention Center, 2 blocks from 16th Street, which has the free shuttle and fireworks) basically a terrific location.
Details you can get from their website, but if you look at a map of Denver downtown hotels, you'll see that you have more than a few choices. At this point, though, I'd be punching in your dates and going from there.

...How far is the Teatro from the Downtown area? How does it compare t to the Renaissance or the Art? Does the hotel provide shuttle service? Thanks so much for all the help!...
Have you not been reading the responses? Teatro is downtown. Hotel does not have shuttle service nor do any of the downtown hotels. Your choices from airport is the train, taxi, shared shuttle. At $9.50 the train makes the most sense.
Sylvia3, Teatro is not in the LoDo area. Just on the edge. Technically speaking LoDo doesn't start until the alley behind Larimer. You go downhill between Larimer and Market - hence - Lower Downtown. The old flood plane of the S. Platte River. I always consider Market the start of LoDo. Prior to the ball park, anything north of Market was pretty sketchy.
Not sure what your reference to Renaissance is. I am aware of a Renaissance hotel at the old Stapleton airport but downtown. I would avoid that hotel. And Art means nothing.

We've stayed at both The Monaco and The Residence Inn. They are almost next door to each other. We preferred Monaco, but we are elites with them. There are several in the immediate area ..Marriott, Courtyard etc.
At this point, I'd look for prices and possible minimum stays. Is $200 with tax?

Dam... need to learn to proofread. ...but NOT downtown...
The Renaissance at the old airport location is a good ten miles or more from downtown. The 16th street Mall is the backbone of the downtown area stretching for a mile from Colfax (state capital building complex) to Wynkoop, the e/west street in front of Union station. The 16th street mall is not a shopping mall but a traffic free, pedestrian zone from one end to the other.

Glad you were successful; I was seeing jacked up rates for new year's eve.
Fmpden, just for the record, Teatro's own website refers to them being in Lodo, as does another Denver accommodations website. But, they are all in close proximity (most of the places listed here).
I still re!ember that Lodo was a place for breakfast before work, maybe, but to be avoided assiduously the rest of the time. Ahh, gentrification...
