Unless seeing grizzlies is your main concern, I'd choose the Kenai area. I found the beauty more spectacular (even though we had three straight days of no clouds over Denali -- talk about dumb luck!), facilities more accessible, and wildlife just as abundant in the Kenai.

You do have to work a little harder to get a wilderness experience in Kenai, but it can be done. Still, I'd definitely choose it over Denali.

Kenai, would be my choice. It is breath taking, the most memorable sceanery in Alaska. Denali was an 8 hour school bus trip with sighting of bears that were dots in the distance.

We did three day Backcountry Lodge stays in each. Although we lucked out with spectacular weather -- Denali totally clear all three days until we left in the early morning rain, I'd have to say that Kenai was more beautiful and nicer. We also didn't have to wear the mosquito helmets when going through the tundra in Kenai like we did in Denali.

Both are fantastic if you do them right. Choose one and save the other for another trip.
