Hello all - To follow up on my previous post regarding our trip beginning of July, we are trying to decide how much time to give to the actual Denali Park (yes we want to go into Wonder Lake), and how much to the surrounding areas. Talkeetna area/Matsu Valley look good. Healy looks good because it's near the park entrance. But also want to get to Fairbanks and Chena River and Yukon RIver (if possible).
What are your thoughts? Looking for short hikes that can include fishing, wildflowers, berries, canoeing or kayaing.
We will have about ten days to enjoy it all, so understand won't get to everything. What is a don't miss?
Thank you!
JJoel

New York, New York...my kind of town

Talkeetna is a good spot for river trips. Pack tours out of Healy are also a good option. Stay away from the southern MatSu (Palmer/Wasilla) - they're far too crowded. Canoeing and berry picking are good around the larger Fairbanks area. Be prepared for mosquitos. This year has brought a bumper crop.
