Deluxe trip to Los Angeles
Hi All,
March 2003 I make a little (deluxe) trip to Los Angeles (10 Days) with my best friend. Only shopping, nightclubbing...... At this time, we have a bigger budget. So because of that, we choose some deluxe hotels.
At the beginning we stay at the Park Hyatt (Century City), then some days at the beach in Santa Monica (Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel) and the last days in "The Four Seasons Beverly Hills" and "The Beverly Hills Hotel"
What do you think of these hotels, perhaps you can give some "new" reviews (perhaps some people stays at the last view weeks at one of these hotels) of the hotels?
I always lke the "celebrity" scene, perhaps we have a chance to see some in that area/hotels?

You keep saying days for each hotel, so at most you are staying three days in any hotel. I can't imagine why you'd move from the BH FourSeasons to the BH Hotel or vice versa. Stay in one or the other. Personally I'd prefer the BH Hotel for the grounds and the relaxation factor. Both are top notch and you are likely to see celebrities at either if that is your thing, but a trip to Spago is likely to yield a higher celebrity sighting number.
And why are you staying at all at the Century City Park Hyatt? Are you there for business? It is strictly a boring businessman's hotel.
Personally I'd break in down into two stays at most. Santa Monica Beach isn't my thing, but if it is yours, than that is OK, but spend the rest of the time at either of the two BH Hotels you mention. Since you seem to be looking for a little "recognition", being a guest at one hotel for 5 nights or so will gain you a lot more than just a bunch of ins and outs.

The loounges and bars in the BH Four Seasons and BH Peninsula are your best bets for seeing celebs. Many of the well known people who can be seen there, though, are producers/business people and such. Not so mant actors.
I'd cancel the BH Hotel and substitute the Peninsula. Get a villa suite there. Best room in LA.

Stayed at Shutters On The Beach in Santa Monica.
This was definately a deluxe hotel!
Right on the beach, the view is breath taking. It's a smaller hotel then Loews, but in my opinion, it's a far more superior hotel then Loews.
Resturants in Shutters were fabulous!
Service was supurb!
The rooms were immaculate!
Would definately recommend this hotel to everyone.

Oh, no no no....
Shutters is most definitely NOT a world class hotel and the word luxury should be left out of any statement describing it as well.
First, it's a beach hotel.
The decor in the rooms (I've stayed in 2 different types of standard rooms and a suite) is beach type stuff. Blue/white striped fabrics, beach house type furniture.
That's all fine, but it's not expensively furnished. The bathrooms, even the jacuzzi bath with separate shower, was subpar compared to true luxury hotels across the USA.
Shutters on the Beach is possibly the most overpriced and overhyped hotel I've stayed in in the USA.
I'll fladly shell out $500/night at the Four Seasons NYC and Chicago, $600/night at Cap Juluca on Anguilla, when the quality of the hotel measures up to the price.
Shutters is a joke in this regard.
Run over to Beverly Hills and get a villa suite at the Peninsula for the same price as an oceanview room at Shutters, and then come back and tell me how these two hotels compare.
I will argue to the death with anyone who defends Shutters as anything more than a well located beach hotel in a nice part of the USA. If you took the beach away from that hotel it would be bankrupt faster than you can say ENRON.

. . . not to mention that the neighborhood surrounding the hotel isn't all that great, and the homeless population is positively DISGUSTING!! (As for Cap Juluca, very nice beach, but the hotel, in my opinion, is NOT as nice as many in Hawaii, and once again, the island is absolutely DISMAL looking!!)
