Bethany Beach and Lewes are both family friendly. I'd avoid Dewey Beach which is a party town for the college crowd.
Agree with above poster. Rehoboth Beach has some nice areas too. People in Dewey Beach rent their homes out for the summer to partiers. I've stayed there with friends and one of them said, "I've never been to the beach here, I'm just here to party"...
Bethany Beach and Lewes are great but I also like Fenwick Island.
