Decisions Decisions Decisions

Traveling to NYC weekend before Thanksgiving...Traveling with my 11 yr old daughter and my mother. I have been 5 times...daughter twice...mother never...how do you create a trip to please everyone? We arrive on Friday night and are planning to see a show that night. Any suggestions for a great dance show? Daughter is a dancer and would love to see some great great dancing. We are planning on shopping but dont want the expensive stores...we like bargins and sales...any ideas for that? Moms only requests are that she get to see the Empire state building and the Statue of Liberty...does the ferry run in November or is it too cold to take that. (We are all from South Louisiana and we get cold when the temp hit 60...lol) Is the city really so busy that we would have to wait in line for an hour to get to the top of the empire state building at that time of year? I know I will have plenty more questions but I will start with those. Your opinions please.
Thanks

Where to begin?!?

My first suggestion is to search this forum for threads about NYC. Many of your questions have been addressed in detail. Some in nauseating detail.

I'll get you started . . .

There's a website for the Statue of Liberty that I'm sure will provide a schedule for November. As far as I know it runs all year. November is tough weather-wise -- could be cold or Fall-like. Check www.weather.com the day before you depart.

Empire State Building -- Even if you purchase tickets in advance (again, visit the ESB website), you can stand in line for the elevators for 30-90 minutes. Just part of the deal.

Shopping -- lots of threads about that topic.

Enjoy NYC!

The Nutcracker should start sometime around November 15th. I would think that would be a wonderful memory for all of you.

I am incorrect. The Nutcracker starts on November 28th and runs through January 4th. Sorry!

Just returned from NYC 0(trip report maybe Thrs.) with DH and 13 yr old daughter. We stayed at the Gorham - highly recommmended! Saw Hairspray. We all loved it. Took the cruise of Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. While the ferry is free, you don't get near the statue (for pics and a narrative) so I suggest going on the Cruise Line Tour. Shopping - Macy's, Century 21 (Across from WTC site) and Herald Square (34th and Broadway).

For dance, I highly recommend ballet. Not sure what their fall schedules are, but there are two major companies, NYC Ballet (www.nycballet.org) and American Ballet Theater (www.abt.org). These two troupes have some of the finest dancers in the world. They perform some fantastic modern works in addition to the classics.
