December Vacation in Florida by Beach

Hi all!

My boyfriend, his mom and myself want to spend Dec. 28- Jan 1/2 in Florida by the beach.
He works between 60-80 hours a week depending on the week. So this is mostly a relaxing vacation. He is a busy body so he will definitely need some fun things to do besides just sit around, even though we want to do mostly that.

Ideally looking for:
- can rent home around the beach (we will look at airbnb)
- good restaurants /shops
- fun environment
- some fun/laid back things to do (interpret however)
- closer to a main airport (not renting a car probably, but can)
- avoid super busy areas, i.e. Disney World or around theme parks

Looked into:
-Naples
-St Augustine

Honestly, we are open to wherever! I've never been to Florida and I can only go off research which has put me in about 20 different spots.

Thank you!!

The weather in Naples will certainly be better than in St. Augustine in December. St. Pete beach is lovely as well

Cheryl is correct about the weather. If you really want "fun" (depends on your definition) and can substitute a pool for a beach, think about Key West. It will have the best weather at that time of year.

Like Dukeys suggestion. Lots of fun things to do in Key West. We have not done the trip to Dry Tortugas, but friends have liked it. Maybe a day or two in South Beach prior or after.

Key West, look at renting in the Truman annex area. Nice area and quiet except for a rooster or two. Don't need a car, can rent bikes and very laid back.

But you should hurry as NYE is a big deal. But you can leave Duval behind and go back to your apartment.

Jan 2 is already getting tight for flights so make sure you have that settled before agreeing to a non-refundable airbnb rental.

We spent Christmas week in St. Augustine a couple of years. It was not beach weather. It was chilly. I am sure weather varies at that time of year but it was long pants and jacket. I think you need to look at Miami and south. The Zika virus might put a dent in the demand in this area. So you might get a little lucky with price and demand.

An area that we recently visit that might meet your requirements - Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. It was pretty laid back with some nice restaurants and great beach. If the weather cooperates it would be a nice place.

Another vote for Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. When my husband and I want to get away for a few days to just relax and swim that's where we head. Lucky for us we can get direct flights from Buffalo to FLL. We take carry on luggage, hop into a cab. No need for a car. Grocery store, drug store, liquor store all walkable. There are several restaurants in the little "downtown." You can always go into Ft. Lauderdale (bus or taxi) for things to do.

There are several smaller hotels that have kitchens. There aren't really any rental homes. Well, there is one. It is owned by the High Noon Resort. Here's the link. Scroll to the bottom for the beach house.

We have been to LBTS in December, but usually early to mid month. It has always been fabulous. Warm with very little humidity. I don't know if the temps drop all that much toward the end of the month.

How about Mexico if you really want the beach.
