Death Valley in June

Jump to last reply

Will be on a four week trip from Louisiana to Yosemite and other parts of California in mid May/early June, traveling in a 2013 minivan. Going west on I-10, and want to head back east on I-40, with a few side trips. One of the side trips was to spend the night in Lone Pine, CA and travel on Hwy. 190 to Furnace Creek, and then north to Scotty's Castle, continuing on to Las Vegas. Google maps shows this to be a total distance of 327 miles. If we get an early start that morning, how do-able is this for one day, considering the climate? I do realize that summer is not the best time to see Death Valley, but because of work schedules it's the only time I can travel for four weeks.
I have read mixed reviews about whether or not it is foolish to travel to Death Valley in June (we would be doing this on June 11); I know it will be hot. But will it be that much hotter than the countryside we will be traveling through on I-40, or Las Vegas? I've been to Vegas in August, so know how hot it gets there. Would you make this automobile trip?
Second question to consider--will post in a new thread. Would you drive in Death Valley in June in a motorhome?
