Death Valley

Hello,

Planning on visiting Death Valley NP during Christmas. Flying into Las Vegas and then Driving into DVNP the following morning. Planning on spending 3 nights and 3 full days in the park. Is this enough or more. If its more then I can spend 1 extra day in Las Vegas.

Thanks

We usually spend only one night in Death Valley NP, but we've been there several times. If you haven't been to Valley of Fire State Park (near Las Vegas), that would be a great way to spend one of your days.

Three days would be great - do you plan on any hiking? If not, two days might be enough.

This page describes the four major touring areas to help you decide how long you'd want to stay over

http://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/places-to-go.htm

The 'Furnace Creek' area has the most individual scenic locations.

We spent 2 nights in DV and were surprised by how much we enjoyed it. This was during the last week of December, so the same time you are going. It is a large spread out park, so be sure you have food and gas before you take off very far.
If you have a 4 wheel drive--we loved Titus Canyon.

Plan for 3 days trip, as to enjoy the beauty of park. There are lots of stuffs to enjoy. So you should stay there for 3 days. And don't miss the fun of hiking there, it will be a nice experience.

3 nights would make for a nice relaxing time. we went for 2 but didn't do any major walks or hikes. we really enjoyed scotty's castle. stayed at furnace creek ranch. the inn was too pricey for us. went there for breakfast one day though so we could see some of it.

Our favorite way to enter DV from Vegas is to go up 95 to Beatty then head west. You can stop for a few minutes at Rhyolite, a ghost town which has a house made of bottles, it's a very short distance off the path. At the top of the ridge there are pit toilets on one side of the road and fantastic views down into the valley on the other, stop there for some picts.

I and my family had been there early in this year. It was really fun but we had only 2 days plan. So to enjoy the thrill of valley plan for at least 3 days as there is a lot to do.

Enjoy it!
