Deal for Estes Park this summer/fall $88 (~50% off)

If you're headed to Rocky Mountain National Park this summer, this deal just came to me, good until October 15:

Elkhorn Lodge and Guest Ranch, $88/night

Actually, that's 2 nights for $88; so, $44/night!

Wonder what could be causing lodging in Estes Park to go for fire sale prices this summer?

Right. And that's why all the campgrounds are sold out and there's a line to get in every day.

Sylvia, I'll let you in on a little secret -- my posting was a joke. If you need help understanding the concept of humor, I'll be glad to explain it to you.

BTW, the second sentence in the previous paragraph was also a joke.

Yes, Paul, obviously. But frankly, it's a pretty bad joke, and inappropriate, considering the losses here. In my small way, I"m trying to encourage people to not cancel trips here, and yelling "fire!" is a cheap shot; tourism is pretty important to us.

So, Sylvia, which of us did something more inappropriate, more in conflict with the rules of posting here, which include, "Commercial postings ... aren't allowed here and will be removed" -- you or I?

And I guess my warning to the person who hadn't heard that there are fires in Colorado this summer (if there even was that many) haven't hurt your tourism one bit. After all, "all the campgrounds are sold out and there's a line to get in every day."

You know what's bizarre, Sylvia? I knew the joke was in questionable taste as I was posting it, and I was prepared to apologize IF someone had objected in the first few days after I posted. But your hissy fit, four days after posting, did not encourage such an apology.

But let's make a deal: I'll apologize for my post if you'll apologize for your blatant violation of Fodors rules.

I'll even go first: I apologize for a joke in questionable taste, making light of a very serious situation.

Your turn, Sylvia.

It's not my hotel; I considered it the same as sending folks to various VRBO and hotels (and tour companies, and private drivers, etc.) through posting links (which are all over the destination boards).
After receiving calls from friends and family about cancelling plans, I've tried to do my part to not discourage visitors to my state.
I didn't point out that the joke was a bad one until you felt the need to explain that it was one (unnecessarily).
I feel no need to apologize, nor do I care if you do. AFter all, questionable taste is rampant on Fodors.
But thinking first, then pushing submit, is always a wise move.

Paul - if you were offended by the link sylvia3 posted, then you should have reported it to the moderators immediately. The fact that you didn't say anything about it until your latest post indicates that you only care about it as a way to get back at sylvia3 for calling out your poor taste in humor. She did not pitch a hissy fit, you did.

People have died, hundreds of home have been destroyed and you are joking about it. Try walking up to someone who's house burned down and making a dumb comment about a fire sale. If you had any sense you'd apologize outright and keep your mouth shut instead of making it worse by pitching a fit and insisting that sylvia3 apologize. Ridiculous.

I considered that possibility but decided to let it slide. I've reported literally dozens of posts that, like Sylvia's, make an unsolicited pitch for a business for the purpose of increasing profits in the area where the poster lives. If this had been her first post, I would have done the same for this one. I instead checked her history and found that she has posted frequently on this site, and thus figured the unsolicited attempt to increase business was a simple slip. As I myself have included links to private businesses
http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...ional-park.cfm
when people specifically ask for such URLs, I decided to just ignore it. So your supposition that I ignored this fact until lately is just incorrect.

And, BTW, "if you were offended by the joke I posted, then you should have asked for an apology immediately. The fact that you didn't indicates that you only care about it as a way to get back at me." I'll say it again: I was prepared to apologize for this joke if, in the days after I posted it, I had gotten the flaming I may well have deserved. Instead, the first complaint wasn't for four days, and didn't even mention any offense at the questionable humor about a "fire sale."

You know what's funny, WhereWeAre? I was perfectly willing to let Sylvia have the last word on this. It was only your post, questioning my motivations, that caused me to explain why I didn't report the original post, as was my first thought. If you like, I'll let you make one more statement that the joke was in bad taste -- but no more questioning of my motivations -- and I promise I won't respond and will keep my mouth shut after that. Deal?

Where to stay in Estes Park is a popular question on this board & lodging is not cheap, so I did not find Sylvia's link inappropriate in any way.

Aren't we lucky to have you here demanding apologies & letting others make one more statement?!

As for your joke I thought it was stupid. Actually, I was embarrassed for you considering 1 person died and 340+ houses were destroyed later that day in Colorado Springs. Obviously, you had no idea that would happen but you seem more upset that you didn't get the laugh track you were waiting for.
