Well, Bubblywine and Rosetravels are at it again! My DM is coming to visit in June and Bubbly could not be more excited. We'll be driving from DC up to Philly for the weekend and I was wondering if any of you know a nice scenic drive we could take along the way. Or maybe a cannot-be-missed place we should stop to see or eat (emphasis on eat, I suppose). Thanks!

Charleston, Savannah and more cheesy grits please
If you can detour a few hours, the drive up US 15 from Virginia through Maryland and then east through Gettysburg, and Lancaster is really nice in parts. Google Maps thinks going that way adds about 1:20 to a 2:38 trip, but at least you'd avoid I-95 one direction. You could take 95 home if you want.
If I were traveling with you, I'd insist on stopping at Longwood Gardens, and at Chadds Ford for the Brandywine Museum and grounds -both outside Wilmington on rte. 1.
A longer get-around might be to take Rte. 50 west through Annapolis (stop if you want), cross the bridge, and follow 50 to 301 north toward Newark Del (New-Ark) -- where you can rejoin I-95 or go on to Ret. 1 and see the places I mentioned above. Rtes. 50 and 301 aren't post-card scenic but it's interesting to see that part of the DelMarVa peninsula -- some historic places, some "typical" agriculture, etc.
Mainly, it's not I-95. I'll do a lot to avoid I-95.
Longwood Gardens is a great idea! Any other suggestions?
You can actually save money AND (usually) time if you get off I-95 at Exit 77, go north on State Hiway 24, then head north (to the right) on US Hiway 1 -- and the drive then takes you right to Longwood Gardens and Brandywine Museum. You save money by not having to pay to cross the Susquehanna River going north on I-95 (it's free going south), nor driving on I-95 in Delaware. You can often save time as well because you'll bypass the jam-up at the toll booth north of Exit 77.
If you take this route, fill up on gas in Maryland on US Hiway 1 -- gas prices go up noticably once you enter PA.
Like HKP, I'll do just about anything to not drive on I-95.
