DC - a night at the Theatre
DH and I will be staying near Dupont Circle in late March, for a Saturday night show at the Folger Theatre.
1. We're looking for a good pre-theatre place to eat. Mid-eastern food is always a good choice, but really, just about anything ethnic would be good. Suggestions? All price ranges entertained.
2. Not having been to the theater in a long time, and not in DC, I have no idea what is the normal dress code these days. I don't want to be too under- or over-dressed. Suggestions?

The Folger Theater is on Capitol Hill (NOT Dupont).
I highly recommend Sonama for a pre-theater meal. It's where I always go before a show at the Folger Theater - a 2 block walk.

1. For Middle Eastern, I loved Zaytinya (http://www.zaytinya.com/) Location wise, it's between Dupont and the theatre, and is easily accessible via Metro.
2. Regarding dress: though I have never been to the Folger Theatre, my general rule for the theatre is either dress pants and a nice top, or a casual dress and tights/nylons and dress shoes or boots. I've always felt comfortable in that outfit at the theatre in DC (Kennedy Center), NYC, Chicago, Minneapolis and Madison. I've never felt over or under dressed. For men, I'd say dress pants and a button down and shoes that aren't sneakers are fine.
Enjoy your trip!

Sonoma is the best restaurant close to the Folger, agree with bardo on that one.
For reasonable ethnic on the Hill (about a four or five block walk from the Folger, or one metro stop up at Eastern Market from Capitol South) go to The Old Siam at Penn and 8th St SE. Good Thai food, very reasonably priced.
DC's best middle eastern fusion is probably Zaytinya as Bethke says, at Gallery Place metro stop. Easy to get to from DuPont on the red line, but not convenient to the Folger (have to walk to Metro center to catch the blue/orange, or take the red one stop and transfer).
If you want a new dining experience and enjoy ethnic food, try Ethiopian on U Street (there are many places between about 9th and 13th). But that is on the green line at U Street/Cardozo and not convenient to either DuPont or the Folger.
