Day Trips from Bethany Beach
My family is going to Bethany Beach early October for a week.
I would like to here suggestions for day trips (drives) to surrounding areas.
Scenic, easy walk and site seeing. We enjoy eating local food and shopping farmers markets.Possibly the timing will be right for fall foliage.

Dear Auffelman,
People like to drive to Assateague to see the wild horses. Not a drive, but if you like bike-riding, I absolutely loved cycling on the designated lane between Bethany and Dewey Beach. It's pretty flat; if you want something less challenging, don't go over the bridge and stop at the Indian River Inlet. Although the view from the bridge was just gorgeous and fun to experience at the pace of a bike. I was able to rent a bike earlier this August, but I can't promise the bike rental place on Pennsylvania Ave near Crowley Rental will still be open in October, but maybe.
Best wishes, Daniel

St Micheals, on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake, would make for a nice day trip. About a 2 hour drive if that's not too long. Nice shopping along the main street, and a few good restaurants around the harbor. If you're able to go on a Saturday, Easton which is just a few miles from St Micheals and is along the way, has a great farmer's market on Saturday morning.
While I've never been, Cape May NJ is supposed to be quite nice, and you can get there by a ferry across Delaware Bay from Lewes, DE.

http://history.delaware.gov/museums/zm/zm_main.shtml Lewes has a lot of historical places to visit. Milton, De has dogfish head brewery and it is a great tour. Thursday, Milton has a good farmer's market. The boardwalk in Rehoboth is always fun. Great shops and places to eat. I have an Aunt in Bethany and did have two in Rehoboth till they passed.
