We are flying to S. California this summer for a family event. My daughter and I would like to make a day trip to San Diego. What are you 'must do' suggestions to get a good flavor of the area? This will be our first time to San Deigo.
We like seeing new things, enjoy history and just taking in the new area.

A day trip from where (southern CA is a big place)? For instance - if you'll be in Santa Monica -- SD would be too far for a day trip because it would be about 3 hours each way.
We'll be within an hour drive of San Diego
For one day, you can check out La Jolla Cove, Old Town, and Balboa Park.
You could spend an entire day at Balboa Park with all the museums, the gardens and the zoo. I'd say Balboa Park and Coronado which are pretty close to each other and then La Jolla if you have time. You might consider taking the trolley tour

Take the trolley. You can get on/off all day at the interesting sites.Paul
Thanks! That's exactly the type of thing I was looking for!
