day trip to Pearl Harbor from HNL airport?
Hello,
We are visiting Hawaii for the first time this summer, planning BI and Kauai. However, we'd really like to fit Pearl Harbor in but have no other interest in HNL. Since flights from the BI to Kauai stop in HNL, is it possible to book a morning flight BI to HNL, taxi to Pearl Harbor, and late afternoon flight to Kauai? This would be first week in July, don't know what kind of crowds we'd expect. I've heard there can be a long wait once you check in at PH so I'm concerned we might run out of time. Thanks for any advice.

The airport is right next to Pearl Harbor so no problemo. If you want to get aboard the USS Arizona - only the Navy boats do that and there could be a line - but there are also other tours (private operators) that can take you on the water. Just google away to find what works for you.

Yes it can easily be done.
You do not have to wait in line for tickets anymore unless you want to.
See the info on this thread for the new reservation system.

And as it only costs $1.50/ticket to make reservations, you are not out much if a flight gets delayed or canceled.

I would like to do this next summer-- July 2013.
Anyway, I wonder how I should try to schedule that out. In other words, assuming that I start as early as the first booking, what order and what should I see. I would like to do this before flying out late that afternoon. I think my flight out would be about 6:00PM.

The last USS Arizona Memorial tour is at 3pm.
If it was me, I would get my flight reservations first.
Then you can make reservations for USS Arizona Memorial.
Many go to Oahu early in the morning & rent a car (cab or bus) & spend the day on Oahu including USS Arizona Memorial & tour Honolulu.

Each one has something to offer. Of course, the partially submerged Arizona has all the Pearl Harbor history, while the Missouri of course is one very impressive battleship with more recent operational history. Can't remember if the Missouri or the Iowa was where the Japanese formally surrendered.
And isn't the Bowfinn a sub? Haven't been on it - but have been on a active duty USN sub - and also on a U-Boat at the Chicago Museum - Science and Industry was it? Very cool to explore.

It is up to you to visit or not visit each museum.
