Day trip from Savannah
Girlfriend and I going to Savannah on Sunday, will have 4 days. Any suggestions on favorite day trips where we could take a drive outside the area? Have read about Tybee, which looks like it's accessible, may not take a whole day since it's seems rather small. Thoughts?

Charleston would be nice, or you could go down the Georgia Coast to Jekyll and St. Simons Islands. Tybee is a good trip and you could lengthen it by going to Ft.Pulaski (very nice--it even has a drawbridge), spending some time at the beach, and lunching somewhere.

I would say the Tybee Island/Ft. Pulaski idea is good! Only problem with going to Charleston for one day is that you won't want to leave! Both cities are so wonderful... you need 3 or 4 days in each!!! (Can you tell I love Savannah and Charleston? Just got back from a vacation there, seeing the flowers.) In Savannah, don't miss eating at *Lady & Sons* and be sure to go out to Bonaventure Cemetery! Have dinner one night at River House right on water! We ate there twice our last trip, and LOVE it!

Bonniebroad,
You are absolutely right about Charleston, I loved it! 2 years ago, I went to Charleston and Savannah, I did as you suggested, I spetn 4 days in Charleston, drove down to Savannah, spent 3 days and then back to Charleston. Though I really liked Savannah, I think I left a small part of my heart in Charleston! I loved walking by the river looking at all those gorgeous historical houses!

Another vote for Charleston - my best friend moved there about 5 years ago and LOVES it. I have visited a few times. Be sure to go on tours of the historic mansions (you can just picture the Southern ladies standing out on their verandas), the horse carriage historical tours are great fun and last time we did a ghost tour ... also a blast. My fav restaurant and a must when I go to Charleston is Bocci.
