We are doing a day trip from San Antonio to Gruene. We plan to start at Natural Bridges do the tour - then head to Gruene for the afternoon - love suggestions there (too cold for tubing in early April), then to Grist Mill for dinner and end up at Gruene Hall (kids are 8 and 11) . Please tell me any suggestions for the day. We are not set on our plans if you have better suggestions. Is the ride a safe one back to San Antonio Riverwalk that night? Thanks.

The Music Hall is surprisingly family friendly, especially if you go in the earlier parts of the day.
Thanks so much. The night we are going they plan to have entertainment from 5 to 7.
How about heading west a few miles to Bulverde and the Tejas Rodeo? http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g55552-d1028101-Reviews-Tejas_Rodeo_Company-Bulverde_Texas.html
Come back to San Antonio on US 281.
Gruene is tiny. Other than a few shops, there isn't much there besides Gruene Hall and the Grist Mill. I highly recommend both of those and an antique store across the street.
New Braunfels---5 miles down the road--will have a lot of things you might want to see and do. It will be too cold for Schlitterbahn Waterpark but this is a German community with some unique restaurants and sites. Do a little research on it and I bet you find some things to spend a few hours doing.
It will be interstate driving all the way back to San Antonio so that should be fine if you are comfortable driving at night.
Also, my kids have enjoyed the Wildlife Tour WAY more than the Caverns tour at Natural Bridge. But I would suggest doing both if you are looking for time to kill. Aquarena Springs, in San Marcos, is also kinda fun, in the old-timey, kitschy manner.
Thank you so much. This is really helping.
