How does it compare to the others east of there like Ft Morgan, Gulf Shores and Perdido Key. Things such as grocery stores and restaurants and how they have recovered from the huricanes. Thanks for any info.

In my opinion Dauphine Island didn't have much BEFORE the hurricanes so we always prefer Fort Morgan which is also isolated but nicer beach, more upscale accommodations and a few good local restaurants. We took the ferry from Fort Morgan last July to Dauphine Island and things were being built back since the storms.
We just spent a couple of days at Perdido Key, our favorite. It is not isolated and the beach/water was just beautiful. In fact I hadn't seen it this pretty in a few years. Also no jellyfish or rays which was nice. Perdido has some good restaurants on the water and is near Orange Beach with others. Good location also for groceries and upscale shopping along with the typical seashell shops.
Hope this helps. If you're making plans this time of year, do keep your eyes on the Atlantic/Gulf of Mexico. Most schools in this region start this week so prices should start going down.
Thank you that is pretty much what we are needing but we are actually looking for next July. Our daughter and oldest son both lived in the Pensacola area about ten years ago thanks to the Navy. Neither has been back since so we're in the beginning stages of a small reunion. I remember her talking about the jellyfish with basically the same affection. Thank you
DownSouth has it right. Of course, people who have vacation homes on DI love it, but it's never been my fav. Since hurricane Frederick, years ago, the beach was moved and broken tree stumps became the 'beach' area. UGH!
Of course, if you're just catching a charter, or have a friend with a boat to fish, that's a different story.
