Greetings, fodorites, from a prodigal poster
It's been ages since I've posted or contributed anything worthy, but I am hoping that the ever-present manhattanites might be willing to lend a tip or two.
I am heading to NYC in 2 weeks' time to meet up with some GFs for a very badly needed girls' weekend away, and we would like to go dancing on Friday or Saturday night. We are in our 30s, don't have Kardashian budgets (or aspirations!), and tend to wear clothing when we go out. Is there any hope for us, or should we just look for broadway tix (or, being honest, camp out at a wine bar)?
Thank you very much for any help you can provide - I've just scoured recent NYC posts and have found some excellent ideas!

I know this is probably not what you meant by dancing, but if you didn't see my recent post about Alvin Ailey's extension classes I will repeat it here. Ailey has classes open to the public for all ages and all dance styles (zumba, jazz, African, hip hop etc etc). You can join a single class just for fun...and I am sure you will learn some great moves for when you do go dancing. When I went I was 55 and hadn't been to a dance class in 30 years, and I just loved it.

It's true that most dance clubs are for the younger, wealthier and terminally trendy (my daughters 20 and 23 tell me this). But if you have a look at Time Out New York online you may find something that fits your needs for a more adult group not looking to stand on line forever praying to get in or remortgage their houses. (But, my understanding is that choices are limited. Must admit we have not been dancing except at a wedding or formal event in years.)
I am told Cielo attracts people of all ages, but honestly I'd say Fri or Sat. are not the best nights for you to go dancing.

This is another spot that looks like a possibility. Read the reviews and see what you think.
