Dana at Mis.Bay vs Catamaran Resort

anyone stayed at either hotel in San Diego. Catamaran a little more expensive but seems to have beautiful tropical landscape and does have a kitchenette..Where as Dana at Mission Bay has a microwave and small refrig.

We've had friends stay at both. We live a few miles from both places.

The Catamaran is in a very busy area - there is a lot of traffic and you're in the beginning of the North Mission Beach area - which sometimes has a little more crime. It's a place where a lot of kids (college and young people) hang out to party. There are a lot of bars and night clubs around the area.

Dana Point is it's own area about a mile or two away from South Mission Beach which is very quiet and parklike. I am thinking if you have young kids it would be preferable.

If on the other hand you like the young surfer, crowded, beach, party, bar scene the Catamaran would be better.

The Catamaran is about a block from the beach and right on Mission Bay. The Dana Inn is on part of Mission Bay. The Catamaran is closer to Pacific Beach and Mission Beach if you want to do more walking to various shopping, restaurants, etc.

The Dana Inn is more convenient for freeway access if you want to do more sightseeing - Sea World, the Zoo, Downtown, Coronado, Balboa Park, Cabrillo Monument, Wild Animal Park, etc.

things to think about. Don't like the idea of being in a higher crime area. We plan on parking ourselves on the beach or at the pool and one day at Legoland for the 7 yr old.... how are the grounds at Dana Point. It doesn't look as tropical as the catamaran but not sure if that should be a top priority...College kids, drinking???? How far is Dana point from a beach? Little one loves the beach and pool....

Catamaran is a block or two from the beach and much easier to get to. It's not terribly bad, and generally the type of problems are kids coming out of the bars late at night, that kind of stuff.

The Dana Inn is further south and you'd have to drive up to Mission Beach to go to the beach and parking is terrible.

I think either one would be ok.

You could also check out Coronado - it's a nice little beach town, you can bicycle around the island, and it's VERY safe!
It's got excellent freeway access over to San Diego across the bay.

I didn't realize you had another post - so I've posted twice. Sorry about that!

We stayed at the Catamaran some time ago, but really liked it and would stay there again. It is a busy area, but the hotel is contained and away from foot traffic and the road. Right on Mission Bay and one block from Pacific Beach. They charge for parking as do all the hotels in this area.
