Dallas and Fort Worth
We are planning to spend 2 nights downtown Fort Worth (near Stockyards) then moving to downtown Dallas.... Is it worth the move or should we just stay in one place?? We have never been before, looking to tour Cowboys stadium, visit Stockyards and some good bars with live music (country), recommendations please!

Cowboy stadium is mid-way between Dallas & Fort Worth. Stockyards can be seen in one day (or less). Other points of interest in FW require transportation if you stay in Stockyards area.
The drive between Dallas & Fort Worth takes 45 to 60 minutes depending on time of day and traffic.
Lots of places in both cities (and the towns in-between) that have live country music.
Not much to see/do in "downtown" Dallas" (mostly just high rise office buildings) and no real public transportation so you'd need transportation to "go anywhere" of interest (and there's lots to see/do in the surrounding areas).
Consider staying at a hotel in the mid-cites area that way you'll have an easy 15 to 20 minute drive to both cities and you won't have to relocate midway in your stay.

This statement "downtown Fort Worth (near Stockyards)" is incoherent. Downtown Fort Worth is not near the FW Stockyards. Downtown Fort Worth is, depending upon your exact location, near Sundance Square. The Stockyards are on the north side of town in (or close to, depending upon your definition) the area appropriately named North Side. A 4-mile trip down Main Street gets you to downtown from the Stockyards; a similar trip (with a right on Northside Dr) will get you to the FW Arts District.
No matter what, you NEED A CAR. Fort Worth is physically larger than New York with less than 1/10 the population. Dallas is also physically larger than New York and the Metroplex is larger than Houston (the largest city in the US that is not coextensive with its county). And the public transport options are not great.

Incoherent? bigruss, Why would you bother answering a question by being so nasty! I obviously have never been there before that's why I am asking questions..Thanks Roamsaround.. Any hotel recommendations? we usually stay with Marriott but don't mind more of a budget place if it's clean.. Breakfast would be nice..

We're longtime Dallas suburb residents and usually suggest that visitors stay in FtW, rather than Dallas. A hotel near Sundance would be my preference, but the Stockyards isn't a big problem. The new stadium is in Arlington and fairly convenient to Fort Worth. The baseball stadium and Six Flags are close to the Cowboys stadium, too. If it is of interest, the FtW zoo is excellent and much better than the Dallas version.

All of the chain hotels have multiple locations throughout the DFW Metroplex.
If you want to stay in the mid-cities area pick one from the chain of your choice that is close to either I-30 or highway 183 and you'll get easy access to both cities.
If you want to stay in downtown Fort Worth consider the Omni, the Worthington, the Hilton, Embassy Suites or the Ashton - all centrally located within walking distance of shops, restaurants, the Bass performance Hall, movies, etc.

I live in North Dallas and recommend Ft. Worth over staying in downtown Dallas - unless you want to see the Science Museum, go to Uptown and the 6th floor museum? I would also pass on the Dallas zoo. Not great imo.

It's worth noting that Dallas in fact does have real public transportation these days, with the DART rail line. It's not New York, Boston or Chicago style, but it's certainly something and the trains are really nice. That said, you will probably still need your car.
If you are coming any time soon, be prepared for some extreme road construction happening on I-635 in Dallas. Avoid 635 if at all possible.
It's a long drive between the downtowns of Dallas and Fort Worth, and spending the night in Dallas would avoid a long haul home in the evening. Is there something specific you would like to see or do in Dallas?
