CT. to LaGuardia TIPS Please???

Would appreciate any info on this adventure? We have never been to this airport and have only gone to NYC on METRO NORTH, so we're not familiar with the roads. We will be driving from the Hartford area, Sat.12/11 to catch a 5:30pm flight. I have looked at the airport website, but still not sure how early we should leave, drive times, which major hwy. would be less of headache etc..Is a Sat. afternoon a less hectic day for the drive or should we have an alternative way of going there??

go to mapquest.com & hit "find it". insert jfk in the airport box & scroll down to the section that asks if you want directions to it. plug in your address & it will give all info.
it is an easy drive w/o traffic...take weather into consideration. for an international flight you must be there 2-3 hours in advance. allow an extra hour for parking etc. probably leave at 11am. i live in your neck of the woods & would leave 12 noon. since it is the first time you are making the trip allow the extra time, just in case.

I'm not sure what your plans are - but LGA has very limited parking - not like JFK or EWR where there is a lot of space for long-term cars. Might you not be better off taking a cab or some sort of shuttle?

Our plans are to drive from the Hartford area on Sat 12/11 and take my elderly parents to LaGuardia for their 5:30pm flight home to CO. We will park the car and wait with them till boarding time..then leave. So we would only need to do short term parking or whatever. I can't just leave them at the front door cuz my dad has Parkinsons, and my mother has NO sense of direction. I have read the airport website & their directions, but was wondering if one way was easier or less risky than the other?? Or is it really a simple run? The directions seem easy, but just unsure as to hwy. conditions in that area and time of day. Read alot of old posts, but most were about going from the airport into Manhatten or to other airports. Really appreciate any info! The reason they are flying from there instead of using Bradley is because they have flying priviledges with Frontier Air. Frontier USED to have a Boston gate so that is where we used to go and that was an easy trip. Thanks!

I agree with nytraveler. Here's the URL for parking info at LGA

http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/lgrpfram.htm

Unless you're just dropping someone off, I'd suggest considering alternate transport as parking is limited and expensive.

That URL also has links for transport alternatives and directions.

Hi disneynan

The trip from Hartford to Stamford is about an hour and a half. The leg from Stamford to LGA is about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic of course. I would guess if you leave around noon you should be fine with parking and checking your parents in.

Did you do a mapquest yet? I would take RT. 91 to 15 (Merritt Pkwy) all the way down to the Hutchinson River Pkwy to the Whitestone Bridge and on to LGA. Hope this helps.

I'm not sure where you will be able to wait with your parents. I believe they have eliminated all of the seating outside the security areas - for obvious reasons - and you can;t get past secutiry without a ticket. You can of course stay with them up until security - after that they'll have to be on their own.

I am aware of the security issues, and will check with the airlines. A friend was telling me how she was issued a "boarding type pass" to get past security and sit with teenage daughter while she waited to go to Jamaica. I was hoping to come across something similar. If that does not work, maybe I could call ahead for airline to help take them down then. I just get afraid they will get confused and board the wrong plane..Either way we will sit with them as long possible. Most likely their last trip East....Thanks
