Crowne Plaza In Lake Placid (BuffaloGal)? Thank You!

Good afternoon!

BuffaloGal: Thank you for topping my NY/VY thread!

Unfortunately, Ive sort of been all over the place with where to go for my anniversary this October (New England, NY, stay in PA, etc). Based on my Fodors research youve been very helpful in helping members plan trips to the Adirondacks so I appreciate any feedback you, and others, may offer!

Forodite Ethel recommended Lake Placid as her favorite area so thats where I have begun to look for the perfect getaway but Im open to any in the general area (ie in the Adirondacks)!

I really like the coziness and intimacy offered by a bed and breakfast so I would prefer that over a resort but…you cant always get what you want!

Im looking for a romantic destination where Im not right in the center of town but can still get to it easily to enjoy leisurely strolls! Id like a room with nice décor (subjective, I know), a fireplace, and private bathroom. Oh yeah, and well have our dog with us

Haha!

I came across this helpful website http://tinyurl.com/myka2 which offers accommodations in Lake Placid and shows availability for my dates. Thats where I found Crowne Plaza Resort & Golf Club Lake Placid http://www.lakeplacidcp.com. Check out that view from the common room-I mean, does it get much better than that!? Hahah!

Even though its not a b&b, this resort seems to have it all and the tripadvisor comments are positive (note to self: request room in the new wing). Its almost like its too good to be true!

Does anyone have experience with this resort or any feedback to offer? Thanks much and have a wonderful day!

I was just in Lake Placid this past weekend. Didn't stay at the CP but location wise it's in a good central spot on Main Street, it's up on a hill but easy to walk to shops & restaurants. IMO it's nicer than the Hilton or the Best Western. Mirror Lake Inn is beautiful, but I don't know if they allow dogs.

We stayed at Art Devlin's Olympic Motor Lodge...thought it was nice, clean and well priced. I might opt for a little more luxury next time now that I've seen the lay of the land there.

LP was lots of fun.

I know this is going to be a stupid question, i'm truly geographically challenged - possible to drive to Lake Placid from New York City? If not, is there an airport?
thanks - we're also interested in an october trip!

TPatricco--You were in LP? We could have had a little GTG.

NatureGirl, if you're still really interested in LP I would consider the Interlaken Inn. It's just a few minutes walk from downtown but seems to have a more B&B feel. I have not stayed there (haven't stayed a lot of places since I live here) but I will get the opportunity to stay there 9/29-30 as a shower gift from my brother and his girlfriend. The reviews on TripAdvisor weren't great but I can't understand why. Everyone I've ever talked to says it's a great place. If you want to splurge a little, try the Mirror Lake Inn. Also, close to town with great views. Crowne Plaza is a great hotel and has a great location. Do they take pets? The Best Western does if you want to look into them, too. They are on Main St. and right on Mirror Lake. A friend of mine has stayed at Art Devlin's a few times and she has always liked that place, as well. We have many nice motels.

Too bad you weren't coming very soon. We are almost at peak foliage at it's gorgeous!

Ethel - Sorry I didn't realize you were in LP area sooner!

Lori, you can drive from NYC...we drove from Union, NJ which is just west of lower Manhattan near Newark. it's about 300 miles one way, took us about 4.5 hours.

You're right about peak foliage being right around the corner...in a week or so things will be spectacular up there!

NatureGirl: Lake Placid is really awesome (the ski jump just amazes me), and I've been through it and have visited the sites many times in years past. BUT, I have never stayed there. I fear you have confused me with someone else.

My brother, who lives in Burlington, has stayed in the Mirror Lake Inn (hope I got that right) several times and raves about it!

So, once again, I am of very little help to you.

BTW, girl or gal are acceptable. Just don't call me a lady (wink, wink)!

Have fun no matter where you decide to go.

Good evening!

Once again, thanks for the helpful information! Im going to research each and every lead!

Hi BuffaloGirl! You dont give yourself enough credit-below is one of the threads where someone thanked you for your help with their Adirondack trip!

Search for “small romantic buffalo.” Weird, yes, but those are the key words that will lead you to an 8/22/05 Adirondacks Trip Report (couldnt get the tiny url to work).

NatureGirl, I forgot about that.

Actually, I recommended a beautiful B&B that I had never, but always wanted to,stay in. I've passed it on the way to Burlington many times.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza in 2000 I believe... at the time it was a Holiday Inn. I would hope that they had since updated the hotel when the name change occurred. It is a great location and a bit of a walk up that hill.

Yes, it has a great view from the lobby/sitting area of the hotel. The rooms were pretty basic Holiday Inn type.

Does anyone know if the Comfort Inn in Lake Placid is walking distance to the Olympic Arena? I know where Main Street is, but I'm not sure where Saranac Avenue is. Thanks

Saranac Ave meets Main St. at the bottom of the hill by the Hilton. You could walk from the Comfort Inn to the Olympic Center but it's probably about 2 miles. I believe the Trolley stops right in front of the Comfort Inn so you could take that for free. However, I'm not positive if it runs all year.
