The Cosmosphere is a wonderful place to spend part of a day. It's free and has one of the greatest space collections outside of the Smithsonian or Kennedy Space Center.
As you may know, Abilene is Eisenhower country. The library, home, burial site, etc. are interesting -- and the museum is a gem. Some of my favorites are the table where the D-Day invasion was planned, Mamie's wedding dress and Ike's WWII staff car.
Abilene has many large houses/mansions from the heyday of the cattle drives/cattle barons.
Also loved the Russell Stover factory outlet at Abilene -- great prices!
