Convertible for 4 adults on Maui?
Can 4 adults fit comfortably in a convertible - Chrysler Seibring? Do the people in the back seat get blasted by the wind? We are going to Maui next week, and are considering reserving a convertible because everyone on this forum thinks there great. Thanks for the feedback.

I wouldn't recommend it. We've rented convertibles twice in Hawaii and both times have regretted it. It's fun for the first hour or two but after that the cramped space, hassle getting in and out and locking up stuff gets old.

Four adults actually fit quite comfortably in a Sebring. Their luggage does not. In fact, two full-size suitcases will have a hard time fitting in the trunk. The back seat passengers will get more wind than the front seaters, that's a given. They should wear hats.
Disclosure: I own a Sebring and love it, but absolutely advise against renting one if you have four adults depending on it to carry them AND their luggage. It's just not practical.

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) rented SUVs for 3 islands last summer... and for the 4th island (Oahu) we decided to try a convertible just for kicks (hubby and I thought we'd try to relive old times of driving around the island with the top down, prior to having kids).
My kids were piled so high with luggage on their laps (overflow that didn't fit in the trunk) that we couldn't even see my 9 year old!!
Luckily we only had to get to and from the airport like that... the rest of the time we were OK when our luggage was in the hotel. But we still enjoyed the SUVs better, for the roominess.

I also own a Sebring and love it, but the back seat is definitely snug for two adults. Yes, the wind in the backseat is VERY strong. Hair-dos will not survive.
Is a convertible worth it? If you aren't fussy about your hair and you enjoy the wind and sun, then yes, absolutely. If you hate getting a little hot, sweaty and messy, then no way.
If you decide to go for it, remember that if you drive with the top down and all the windows UP, the wind in the back seat is much more bearable, but you still get the convertible effect.
You also need to be fanatical about applying sunscreen to any parts of you that are exposed. I've gotten a wicked burn on the tops of my shoulders and the front of my knees when driving for an hour or so in a tank top and shorts. Now I keep sunscreen in the glove compartment.
On the plus side, driving near blooming plants and trees at night with the top down is magical- seeing the stars above you and smelling the scent of flowers... Ah...
On the negative side- besides the wind and the tight back seat, Sebring's have a pretty big blind spot when the top is up, so you need to adjust your driving accordingly.
Have a great trip whatever you decide!
