CONNECTICUT BEACH RESORT

Hi everyone
I will be travelling from the Berkshires, Massacheusetts, in April next year to the Connecticut coast. Please can anyone recommend a beach resort to stay in for 2 nights where I can visit local attractions and maybe other points of interest close by. I would prefer a B&B on the coast. Thanks.

The Connecticut shore is pretty in places, but not a dramatic sea coast. In April it's still cool, so I don't expect you'll be lounging on the sand. I think your best bet would be the area around Mystic -- in particular The Inn at Stonington in Stonington Borough http://www.innatstonington.com/. The borough is beautiful with well preserved 17th and 18th century buildings. Nearby is Mystic, a small village featuring Mystic Seaport, http://www.mysticseaport.org/ which has ships and a recreated 19th century village. Good of its type and not-to-miss if you love traditional boats and sailing ships. There is also an aquarium by the highway. Not great but worth a few hours.

Newport Rhode Island is about an hour away. It has its famous mansions, a scenic beach, a good walk and good restaurants. You might consider using it as your base instead. If not, you'd probably enjoy it as a day trip.

You will not find beach resort weather in CT in April. I second Fra's suggestion of Newport. Very quaint town with lots to keep you and your family busy.

Watch Hill, RI may have what you are looking for. It is about 20 minutes from Mystic and a little over an hour from Newport. Google Watch Hill, it has nice beaches (for walking nor swimming in April).

I don't think Watch Hill will have reopened in April. Place shuts down in the fall -- literally, stores shuttered, no restaurants -- and doesn't get going again until May.

You really want Newport RI. Check out the Chanler or Castle Hill.
