condo on Maui-any ideas anyone?

Message: going to Maui-all 5 of us-my husband and two sons and my mother in law. Want somewhere where it is not as likely to rain this time of year-were going in early March. Mother in-law has a terminal illness and this is likely her only trip to Maui so we want it nice for her. She would like a lanai with ocean views. We were looking for a condo for space and eating out less. Our 2 sons love swimming and so a nice beach close is important as is a nice pool. We would like to be away from the strip mall area of Kihei, somewhere pretty. Any ideas would be really appreciated!

Aloha,
First if you want to stay away from
Kihei you may get some rain as Kihei is dryer at this time of year than the West side but during February and March Kihei is just far to crowded and the traffic on South Kihei road has gotten
so bad that if it were me I would put up with a little rain rather than put up with the traffic. Check out the following, all on the West side far away from crowded congested and traffic ridden Kihei.Starting just North of Kaanapali heading towards Napili.
1. Aston Kaanapali Villas
2. Aston Mahana
3 Aston Kaanapali Shores
(www.aston-hotels.com)
4. The KulaKane (www.kulakane.com)
5. The Makani Sands (www.makanisands.com)
6. The Royal Kahana Resort
(www.marcresorts.com)
7. The Napili Point Resort
(www.napilipoint.com
8. The Napili Sunset
(www.napilisunset.com)
All of these properties have 2 bedroom
units and with all of these to choose
from I am sure you will be able to find
something perfect for your family.

Have a great time

Leanne-- check out the Mana Kai condo. It's right on the beach in Kihei but at the far end(almost in Wailea) so that you can easily get on the highway and bypass Kihei Rd. traffic. You can get a 2 bedroom with magnificent views of the beach and the mountains for a great price. We've recommended it many times over the years and every person we've sent there has been very happy.Good Luck

Leanne,
I recommend The Mahana, just north of Kaanapoli Beach. ALL the condos are ocean front so there is no way your mother-in-law won't see the ocean! They have 1 & 2 bedroom units (also studios). Full kitchens, daily maid service, washer/dryer, lanai (great to sit out on and have breakfast), plenty of parking (you need a rental car on Maui), close to stores, etc. We've stayed there 3 times and were always pleased. Units vary in furnishing because they are individually owned but you can always ask at the desk to see it before you take it and we always have asked for a recently remodeled one. Mostly we just like the fact that all of the condos face the ocean "dead on". There are two 12 story bldgs. with a smallish pool. The beach in front is not the greatest (narrow) but if you walk a few yards to the left (South) it's really nice. We always took a walk down the beach (sometimes for a couple of hours) every day. If you walk far enough there is also a public park which a great beach as well.

We've also stayed at Kaanapoli Shores (did not like it as much, very large and we did not have ocean front (just ocean view ... a sliver of a view I might add). The Kaanapoli Villas is OK, we stayed there ages ago - they have some ocean front condos but most of the bldgs are set pretty far back from the beach. The beach is exellent there tho. All 3 are Aston properties, but I think the Mahana is the best of the bunch for the views if nothing else.

Enjoy your trip - and I am sorry that your mother-in-law is ill. It is very nice of you to do this trip for her sake.

We stayed at the Makena Surf and it was top shelf. The scenery is here is just spectacular and if your mother in law is not able to travel about, she will still enjoy it. There are 2 wonderful pools, a beautiful beach, barbeques, and tennis on site. It is very quiet and private. The snorkeling is wonderful, and you can view the smaller islands right from your lanai. I'm not sure about the timing, but we heard you can also whale watch here from the lanai. This is a very classy place and I think if your mother in law's health is declining, a great last vacation spot. (I hope that doesn't seem callous.) If you shop around you can find a deal here. I'm sorry to hear of your mother in law's health, and I hope you have a terrific trip.
