Comments on Ohana Keahou Resort on the Big Island?
Hi,
I am hoping and praying to get back to Hawaii this summer! DH and I went for our honeymoon this past August, and would love to return.
I am looking at the Ohana Keahou in Kona, BI for a couple nights to try and save some $$. Any comments/opinions on that resort? I know it is becoming an Outrigger in Jan....does that mean improvements? Thanks!

If you do a search here (note the spelling Keauhou) you will find quite a bit of feedback, including some very recent. There have been a couple of threads about it in the last few weeks. I have posted on it a few times re: our stay there in March. I thought it was a good value for the money. The grounds are quite nice, the service is very friendly, breakfasts were good, and it is right next to a good snorkeling beach. The rooms are comfortable, but nothing fancy. My biggest complaint was that that balconies are close together and not too private.
There are lots of reviews on tripadvisor, some mixed but mostly pretty good. It looked like they were in the process of renovating some rooms when we were there. I'd certainly stay there again if I wanted to be in that area.

Hi,
Thanks for your tips! It seems like a good value for the money.
Where exactly on the BI is it located? I stayed at Hapuna Prince and Waikoloa Marriott this summer, so I am familiar with the Kohala Coast. We also shopped and ate a lot on the main drag in Kailua-Kona...I am assuming it is in that area? About 30-45 minutes from Kohala?
If we did get a chance to go back, I was thinking of staying 3 nights here to be closer to Kona, VNP, snorkeling trips, etc...is this a good location for that? Then we'd stay a couple nights on the Kohala Coast and veg!

It is a few miles directly south of the center of Kailua-Kona -- close enough to be able to get there easily, but far enough away that you don't have quite as much congestion. For being in the Kona area, I liked the location. It is a couple of hours to VNP.

We stayed at the Ohana last Feb. and were very surprised at how nice it was for the money. We reserved a garden view room for 118$ a night but wound up with an ocean view. Loved the grounds. I would gladly stay there again.
