"Midtown" is a term used for anything from 34 st- 59 st. One of the Comfort Inn's actually uses the term midtown in their name, but the one on 36 st. is also geographically in midtown. But 442 west is very far west and probably near the convention center. It wouldn't be terrible, but is not the nicest area. Why not read the reviews and have a look at the "candid traveler photos" here

If the one on 46 st. is not much more, it's a better location.

Thanks mclaurie...I did book the one on 46th St as it had no penalty for early cancellation. However, change of dates meant I had to cancel BUT silly me, did not take note of the website address and now I can only find the one on 36th St and only sites that only offer to charge for any change! Never mind, I will plod on...

Gosh, it is so confusing. Not all the Comfort Inns are owned by the same co. (I think). The one on 46 st. is part of applecorehotels.com
but they make it more confusing by referring to it in some places on their own website as CI Manhattan and elsewhere as CI Midtown. Anyway, you should be able to get a cancellable rezzie on that site.
