Colorado trip with 10yos - need help planning!

We want to go to Colorado in August for about a week or so with my 10yo children. We definitely want to fly in/out of Denver and also see a Rockies baseball game. Other than that, I haven't a clue what to see/do. Can anyone help plan my itinerary?

Some ideas:

A few miles south of Denver is Colorado Springs with the US Air Force Academy and the US Olympic Training center. Then going south is Pikes Peak (at least worth a peek!). Then in the southwest corner of the state is Mesa Verde National Park (cliff dwellings that the children can explore).

And just outside of CoSprings in Woodland Park is a wonderful dinosaur museum. Our grands (at 10yo) LOVED it. There is also another smaller exhibit in Morrison, just on the outkirts of Denver. They can even "drill" a bit on a piece to "excavate" a bone of a dinosaur.
There is the gold mine tour in Idaho Springs that is fun for kids.
The Glenwood Canyon highway just outside of Glenwood Springs is also interesting for all.
You could head back to Denver by way of the Rocky Mountain National Park, coming from the west to the east.
And if you stop in Boulder take a tour of the Celestial Seasonings "factory". They will enjoy it more than you think they would, especially the mint room.

Colorado Springs has much to offer as a family vacation spot. In addition to the Air Force Academy and Pikes Peak, other options might include the Garden of the God's,Seven Falls, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the Royal George. However, you should be aware that the city is not in the mountains but sits along the Front Range with Pikes Peak as its focal point.

Not knowing how long you plan to stay in Denver and what you want to see/do/experience, it's difficult to make suggestions. Needless to say, you can't really go wrong no matter what you choose. Just don't try to do too much or cover too great a distance. For one week a combination of Denver and Colorado Springs would work. Or even combine Denver and the Springs with a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park: two nights Denver,two/three nights Colorado Springs then two nights in/near RMNP. All depends on your interests.

Thanks for your input so far. I really just wanted one night in Denver to see a Rockies baseball game -- we're big baseball fans - after that, I'd like to see some mountains, maybe do some outdoorsy things (appropriate for 10yo children), national park, etc. I don't want to spend the whole week driving but if after Denver we could go somewhere for 2-3 nights and then somewhere else for another couple of nights, I'd be OK with that.

Thank you!

The railroad museum in Golden, Tiny Town in the mountains, The Georgetown loop railroad, Alpine Slide in Breckenridge, Cowboy mine in Breckenridge, Mineral Loop trail in Leadville -- it is pretty endless.
