I'm accompanying my husband on a business trip to Colorado Springs the second week of March. While he's busy during the day I'd like to explore the area. I love the outdoors and don't mind driving a distance to view beautiful scenery. Any suggestions? Also is there anything of interest to do in the city? Any restaurants to recommend? We are staying at the Broadmoar Hotel. Any comments?

you could go to garden of the gods, the airforce academy, cheyene mtn zoo, the van brigle pottery factory on the west side of town, drive up pikes peak to the summit house, go to royal gorge, drive up to cripple creek for gambling, and for that drive to view beautiful scenery - go west on rte 24 out of town about 40 miles to wilkerson pass. pull out in the pull out place and gaze. it if clear you will be able to see some of the 14er's. warn husband before leaving as you may be tempted to just keep driving into the mtns and he may need to come after you...
re broadmoor. beautiful setting. refined hotel but with a western atmosphere. you should expect excellent service and they have alot of restaurants as i recall. i'm certain their desk can tell you where the current dining hot spots are.
Broadmoor is pretty close to Cheyenne Mtn. Zoo. Garden of the Gods is worthwhile as well. If you want to drive up Pike's Peak, make sure you check road and weather conditions first, because you don't want to get caught in a snowstorm up there. You could look into riding the cogway up instead if you don't want to drive.
