Colorado color this year

The experts are saying color will not be up tp par due to drought. Some leaves have turned brown and dropped off already. They say color peak will be approx third week of Sept which is pretty normal .

I am near Aspen and some of the leaves are already starting to change- really early and not very vivid.

Took a day trip to Leadville on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised to find some patches of gold and a tiny bit of orange between Copper Mountain and Leadville.

I was in very southern Wyoming in the mountains a few weeks ago. A lot of dead conifers there and it was extremely dry; the deciduous trees didn't look all that healthy in some areas.

Just returned from an afternoon drive from Breckenridge over Boreas Pass to Como and back thru Fairplay and over Hoosier Pass. Some aspens have not turned yet, but lots have and they are wonderful. The aspens on the down side going from the summit to Como were particularly colorful.

Down here in Arvada some of the trees have completely changed, in the foothills the aspen are about halfway golden.

We took the Durango-Silverton train yesterday. Up in the high elevations around Silverton and down to about Cold Bank, it's peak season for the "quakies."

Glorious color, too.

DH was in Winter Park last weekend. The leaves are beginning to turn, and will probably peak this weekend, he thought.
