Colorado--weather & trout fishing in 2nd half of Oct.
We are thinking of flying into Denver because flights from our home are cheap to there. We want to take a 4 day trip and my husband wants to fly fish. Because of my job the only time we can go is the week-end of the 21st of Oct. Are there any nice, scenic, interesting places within a 3 or so hour drive of Denver where the weather would still be good enough for hiking and some fly fishing? Or, are we too late in the season? Thanks.

It is hard to say what the weather will be. Could be cold and snowy or fairly warm. Last year we biked in shorts well into Oct. We hike year round. It is rarely bad enough not to go. As to fishing they fish year round here too.
The plus coming at that time is the lodging is very cheap. In Summit and Eagle counties you can get great deals.

You never know about the weather anytime of the year in Colo mountains. I've seen it snow on the 4th of July! We've already had snow on our higher peaks (10,500 ++). That said, a couple hours later, it could be 70 degrees. The snow at that time of the year shouldn't be sticking to the roads if that's the concern.

One thing to be aware of, too...a lot of resorts, restaurants, and other "tourism" operations shut down for part of October. They do this because it's such a down season for them due to the fact that it may be too cold to hike/bike/fish, but no snow to ski on yet. Of course, plenty of hotels are open and if you will be fly fishing on your own, you won't need to worry. But it may be disappointing when some restaurants and shops aren't open.
