Hi everyone,
I am graduating from college in May and a friend and I want to plan a trip to NYC for a long weekend towards the end of May. We are trying to keep the price down, however, we do would like to stay at a decent, clean, close to attractions/nightlife hotel.
I've been to NYC before, but it was a few years back. I'm not sure where to start looking. We don't have to be right in downtown since we are also interested in exploring some of the other neighborhoods.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If possible we were thinking of keeping the hotel around $200 or less a night.
Thank you!!
Molly

That is a very basic budget for that time of year. You best chance of getting something - assuming you are willing to share a double bed - is check out the discount sites like travelzoo.com or hotwire.com (you can usually figure out what hotel you will get with the latter by checking on the amenities). Or bid on Priceline - but learn how to do so first - and don;t go below 4* - since some of the 3* are not very pleasant.
I wouldn;t worry about locations - as long as you're near a subway (almost everyplace except the far east side) since you need to be able to take advantage of the best deals you can find.
As for downtown - that's where most of the nightlife, trendy shopping and a lot of trendy restaurants are (not financial district - but areas like SoHo, Chelsea, Lower East side). You can visit midtown, upper east and east side and other areas quickly and cheaply via the subway.
Thank you for your suggestions!
