Cochon - NOLA

We'll be down in New Orleans next week and would like to grab a meal at Cochon. We're staying down in the French Quarter at Monteleone. Is the walk to Cochon from there doable/safe/easy? Are there cabs available in that area after dinner to get back to our hotel?

It's kind of a hike from the 200 block of Royal Street to the 900 block of Tchoupitoulas, not all of which is the most friendly of areas. I would cab it. You shouldn't have any problems getting a cab after dinner, as they seem to cruise the area, but if you don't see one, I'm sure the hostess will call one for you.

Cochon is a fun restaurant. Be sure to try an after-dinner Catdaddy moonshine. Really!

I tend to walk lots while in Nola, I'd likely walk there & cab it back. (Mostly because I wouldn't likely be able to walk back comfortably)Enjoy !

The area between Cochon and downtown is totally fine! Good grief. The Warehouse District is the single SAFEST neighborhood in New Orleans, according to stats. If you feel better taking a cab, it's never a bad option. You shouldn't have the impression that it's somehow unsafe, however.

Cochon is a great restaurant. It's one of my favorites. Let the waiter guide you on your choices because sometimes the menu descriptions are hard to decipher.

I took the streetcar to the nearest cross street (Julia?) then walked the couple of blocks to the restaurant. That was for lunch. But I got to the very near-by Emeril's the same way in the evening. I walked up to get a streetcar to go back afterwards, but saw it go by just before I got there so knew I'd have a good wait late at night, so I walked back (Royal and Conti area). It's not that far.

Enjoy Cochon -- the entire menu sounds delicious. I simply did three small dishes for a lunch and each was wonderful.
