CLUBS IN NYC - WHAT TO WEAR

I am going clubbing in NYC next weekend (April 28 or 29) with my fiance and his sister and her boyfriend. They've all lived in NYC before and are saying I should wear black pants...But his sister dresses kind of old woman, so I don't know. Where I live it's okay to wear nice jeans, a sexy top and high heels - and accessorize!!

BOTTOM LINE - What is appropriate NYC CLUBBING attire ?

It depends if you are going to dinner first and if so do they let you wear jeans?
Designer jeans are the current steady for NYC nightlife, and practically anywhere! def sexy top as just like in vegas, cleavage is always invited! if your cold, bring something you can tie around your waist as some coatchecks are not open year round! But my policy is always, when in doubt - overdress. id rather be the best dressed somewhere than the muck in juicy velour!

Of course, it depends on the club.

But some of the clubs, particularly those is Chelsea, do not allow jeans, or frown on them. Do you want to wait in line longer or be rejected because you're wearing jeans? Then don't wear 'em. (The guys absolutely should not wear jeans.)

Since you're going out on "amateur nights," be prepared for long lines and high covers.

Bottom Line: Don't wear jeans.

I think you may be wrong Gekko. I've never ever been turned away from a club in NYC for wearing jeans. As a matter of fact, I was just in Lotus and I wore jeans.

It is more how you wear them than if you wear jeans.

No offense, but Lotus is ancient history. I too have been to various business events at Lotus and worn jeans.

If the original poster intends to do a little weekend clubbing at newer spots such as Pacha or g spot, or even Home, jeans most likely aren't acceptable (unless she's famous or a 6' model).

Anyway, why risk it?

Two guys & two girls? Amateur night? If you don't intend to flash a lot of cash, you & your future sister-in-law need to look hot. Not knowing you or your wardrobe, I'll trust you know what you need to wear.

And if you want to have any chance of getting into the newest clubs, you might want to call and see if you can get on the list. If you're told No, ask if a promoter is hosting any events at the clubs, and then call or e-mail the promoter.

Good luck!

Well, this is a first!

Okay, the good news is, you're naturally hot. That's about 1/3 the battle won.

The black camisole top is nice, something like that would be club-appropriate. A short skirt, really short, is always good. Or very low hip-hugger black pants that show lots of real estate in the middle (short top necessary with low pants).

See a trend? Skin to win. That's the 2nd third of the battle.

The final variable is the toughest -- many clubs just won't let you in if you're not "on the list." Yes, patience might win the day, like 20-45 minutes on line, being respectful to the doormen, etc -- but not always. That's why I suggest calling ahead, asking about promoters if necessary.

Regarding "replica" Chanel sunglasses, go to Canal Street between Mulberry & Broadway. Ask if you don't see what you want.

Finally, 1 Peter 3:15. "Gentleness and Respect."

thanks for compliment and reminder to speak the truth in love...

okay, so will a short denim Bebe skirt, camisole, nice earrings, etc, and high heels (kenneth cole) do the trick? that's what my fiance suggested in the first place.
???

oh, and about calling ahead...my sister-in-law to be and her boyfriend are really good about getting to places. seriously. they have good contacts.

Denim Bebe? Hmmm...might be risky, if you get a nazi at the door who won't bend policy. Get thee to a mall.

Otherwise, I'd say your set. Tell your cohorts to work those contacts; that weekend will be a busy one.

And, yes, gentlesness & respect are much better than self-righteousness.

This is such a fun thread, it brings back many fond memories of my club-hopping youth, I always got in immediately at Studio 54, Xenon and the Limelight, but see how I've dated myself? Now that I'm a suburban mom I don't even know the names of the clubs.

Bondgirl, you're a doll, you'll have no problem getting yourself and the rest of your party in the door even if you wore a hefty bag...I say wear the nice jeans, the sexy top and high heels, your fiance has good taste, and you WILL get in.

Oh gosh, Limelight. I haven't thought of that place in a few years. Boy, could I tell you some stories from there.

Thanks for the memory, nina. I guess now I've dated myself, too.

Last October during a NYC girls weekend me and 3 of my dearest friends were whisked away from a long line and given VIP passes because the manager said we looked "classy hot" instead of "skanky hot." I am not sure what that means, but it was a major ego boost to 4 moms in their 30s. And FYI, we were just wearing cool tops with jeans or nice pants and high heels. We did look hot, actually.

I'm no expert, but I'd think that four "hot" gals in their 30's without a bunch of guys with them will normally be whisked to the front of the line unless they were really "skanky" looking. For a couple or for a group with a lot of guys it would be harder. Single "hot" unaccompanied women do have an advantage of getting into clubs. Right?
