Closest hotels to James Island, SC (Charleston area)

I am once again hotel shopping for Charleston and it appears there are no hotels on James Island.

My geographical knowledge of Charleston is iffy but it seems like the closest area to James Island will be downtown.

Am I wrong on this? Are there other areas that would be as close or closer?

There are several in West Ashley, which is Charleston.

I heard the Hampton, right at the intersection of 17 and 526 is nice.

Have you thought about getting a room at the Tides on Folly Beach?

We have considered that.....DH isn't completely sold on it. Of course if I remind him about The Lost Dog, that may change

This is our first time being able to stay downtown. I am hoping to get some time to go shopping and noodle around on my own.

Not sure about the length of your stay but most downtown hotels have a minimum 2 night say.

We booked in here.

Looks lovely but not downtown, a quiet residential area.

And very much the wrong side for James Island.

Thanks Deb...that city market is 1/2 mile from the hotel.

I have never had the opportunity to shop in Charleston, so I am hoping to be able to on this trip.

Not at all Janet. Balance is good and when she gets older, you can teach Harper the fine art of shopping.

If you are there on a weekend there is a "farmers market" with a lot of crafts over on King Street, I think. Behind the tourist office.
